Ella says, “In 2024, I was lucky enough to visit the incredible Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in the Flinders Rangers, South Australia. A remote part of the outback, it features stunning desert landscapes full of contrasts. I travelled with a wonderful group of artists and returned to the Ochre Walls with two arty friends on a rare free day. (We had been captivated by the location on an earlier, quicker visit). We spent a lovely morning soaking up the atmosphere, shooing away flies and painting. Seams of coloured ochre - golds, oranges, reds and even purples, lie in layers beside a dry creek bed with the silver and khaki-greens of the vegetation providing contrast. First Nations Artists have valued the ochre for thousands of years for use in ceremonies and artwork. It was wonderful to reflect on all the artists past and present that have been inspired by this special place.”

Acknowledgement of Country

I would like to acknowledge the Cammeraygal people, the traditional owners of the land and waterways where I live, work and play. I pay my respects to Elders, past, present and emerging and extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples visiting this website.  I would like to thank the Cammeraygal people for their care of this country.

On Cammeraygal country, I am inspired by flannel flowers growing on steep, rocky slopes, by gum blossoms blooming on suburban streets, and by golden wattle, both wild and cultivated.
