Description

Ella says, “In this artwork I wanted to create an interior with a view out to a restful garden. Evidence of a human presence is suggested by the mug of tea resting on the windowsill. Has someone just climbed over the window frame to explore the garden? As this is a dream interior, I have included a much-admired Jody Graham cockatoo on the wall and a Hilary Walsh ceramic dove on the window sill. The dining set is inspired by the one at Pittwater Youth Hostel, and the “Brett” in the title refers to the artist Brett Whiteley. I always love seeing his bonsai trees when I visit the Brett Whiteley Studio. There is something beautiful about how they continue to thrive and grow, linking the past to the present.

P.S. After I posted the original artwork on Instagram I was contacted by Jody Graham herself! She was very happy to see her artwork on the wall. It really made my day to hear from her!

The original artwork was created using ink applied with a bamboo nib pen and graphic markers.

Acknowledgement of Country

I would like to acknowledge the Cammeraygal people, the traditional owners of the land and waterways where I live, work and play. I pay my respects to Elders, past, present and emerging and extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples visiting this website.  I would like to thank the Cammeraygal people for their care of this country.

On Cammeraygal country, I am inspired by flannel flowers growing on steep, rocky slopes, by gum blossoms blooming on suburban streets, and by golden wattle, both wild and cultivated.
