Ella says, “I was lucky enough to go on an art adventure to Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, an incredible area of The Outback in the Flinders Rangers, South Australia. I travelled with a group of artists and we went to a different area of the sanctuary every day to paint ‘en-plein eir’. One day, we went to The Pinnacles. I had sat on top of a hill in the brilliant sun and sketched and painted as the sun swung over the rock and the shadows lengthened. After returning to Sydney, I am still digesting my time there, exploring memories and sensations of being in front of the majestic landforms. In this artwork I used a range of coloured inks (but no black) to depict the intensity of being in front of this magnificent rock formation, the bulk of it and its sculptural form. I am not aiming for realism but to capture the feeling, the sense of the aliveness and intensity of the experience.”
